One of the hardest critters I have ever had to find. They come in all sizes and colours. The only place that you would be able to come across one would be Johnnie's Jetty (night dive is the easiest time, I find). Also known as Anglerfish, for the little lure they hang in front of their mouth to attract food.
This peculiar looking critter was found along the slope near the ever famous Johnnie's Jetty. Snake eels are commonly found buried in the sand just off the coral edges. Although I didn't see the full length of this one, they say they grow to a length of 60 cm.
These come in so many colours, shapes and sizes. They are my favourite critter to find, especially when I come across one that I havent seen yet.
Blennys are most commonly found on shallow reef or rock flats. Most of these will go unnoticed by diver's as often they are quite small. If you sit still long enough you'll find not one but many.
Hard to spot on coral reefs but easy on sandy bottoms, the cockatoo wasp fish can be mistaken for a leaf fish, but if you imagine the crest of the Cockatoo bird you won't go wrong.
These mobile home mover's are found amongst the ree, rocks and sand. As the crab gets bigger he needs to find another shell to renovate.
(Photo by Sanae) Not for all divers but if you ever come across one, you have good eyes. These pleasant creatures live in sheltered bays and estuaries, mostly amongst the sea grass in the shallow water. The come in all sizes and colours.
One of the heardest fish to find, generally found amongst dead coral or around ship wrecks. Beware - deadly if touched.
One of the most evil looking creatures you could come across. With most the body under the sand, you cannot see the venemous spikes that make up it's dorsal fin.
This alien looking creature hides in burrows awaiting passing prey. They come in many different colours.
Swimming around at night this eel was searching for food hiding in the night.
I keep being surprised with what I have on my doorstep. This little creature is one of the rare critters that may be found on my Doorstep Reef
With so many different colours, patterns and sizes, these are beautiful, especially when seen with your own eyes.
I have been wanting to see this critter, and have been searching forever to find one. I was so happy to add this critter to the Doorstep Reef.
Well was I ecstactic when I came across this little fella so close to home. And are they a bugger to take pix of.
One of the critters not often seen as they can blend into the environment and fit into anything to make a new home for themselves.
